On August 29th the Chicago Teachers Union issued a 10 day notice of intent to strike. CPS and CTU can still reach a compromise before walking out on students, but time is running out.

A strike will disrupt the 400,000 students already back in school and learning and will leave parents scrambling.

Just weeks ago the CTU and CPS reached an agreement on the longer school day which gave students the full day they need without asking teachers to work longer hours. The longer day is giving students more opportunity for art and music, gym and recess and one-on-one instruction in core subjects like math and reading, but a strike will bring all that to a halt.

CPS and CTU can and must reach a compromise which keeps kids safe in the classroom where they belong.
